Lesley Neuman

The two wild one's that will be worked with |
Lesley
is best know for her work with wild horses. She has been a popular
clinician at BLM wild horse adoptions. She has a rare ability to
read, communicate with, and gentle wild or unhandled horses. While
working with the wild horse Lesley is explaining to her human
audience what she is doing and what the horse is doing.
Her calling with mustangs came about
while watching a mustang being gentled at a BLM adoption. Since the
late 1990s Lesley has travel around the United States doing wild
horse gentling demonstrations for BLM at their satellite adoptions.
She once traveled with a troupe of trainers to Australia to work
with the wild brumbies.
Lesley has had horses since she was 4
years old, getting her pony Poncho for Christmas. Since then she has
never been without a horse. Lesley's education about horses came by
watching and doing. In high school she showed her horses in trail,
western pleasure, english pleasure and jumping. Once an adult,
Lesley moved on to endurance riding, back country trail riding and
working a bit on ranches with cows.
She got her first mustang in 1982
when she traded an Arabian mare for a mustang mare. Since then she
has had nothing but mustangs as her "horse of choice." To Lesley,
mustangs are "REAL" horses: ones nature made, not bred by man for
color or certain "pretty" characteristics.
Lesley was born and raised in
California, moving to North East Oregon in June 2007. She retired
from her career in graphic arts, sold her "ranchette" and found a
place in the middle of nowhere, where her 2 mules and 4 horses have
all the space and grass they could ever want.
Quote from a letter received from a
woman who saw Lesley at a BLM adoption:
"Most importantly Lesley, thank you profoundly for the work you do
to show and teach us how to be with horses — in a lot of ways, it's
how to be, period. I so much admire, respect and appreciate your
quiet, perceptive and practical way of working with horses. It's
generous and open — both to the animals and to those like me, who
are fortunate to be there watching.
